Commodity Types and Transaction Amounts

You can manage commodity price risk on a number of different commodities.

Broadly, they fit into three categories:

  1. Agricultural (Soft) Commodities
  2. Base and Precious Metals
  3. Oil and Energy
Commodity Types

Which commodities can I hedge?

Agricultural - grains (wheat, canola and corn, sorghum and barley), wool, cotton, cattle and sugar

Base Metals - copper, aluminium, zinc, nickel, tin and lead

Precious Metals - gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium

Oil and Energy* - gas oil (diesel), jet fuel, crude oil, fuel oil, propane and mogas

Other commodities may be available on request.

Minimum Transaction Amounts

Agricultural

  • Grains metric 100 tonnes (milling wheat, canola, corn, sorghum and feed barley)
  • Wool 2,500 kg
  • Cotton 100 bales
  • Live cattle 5,000 kg dressed weight
  • Sugar 100 metric tonnes

Base Metals

  • Aluminium, copper, zinc and lead - 25 metric tonnes
  • Nickel - 6 metric tonnes
  • Tin - 5 metric tonnes

Precious Metals - gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium - 10,000 ozs

Oil and Energy - variable

Other amounts may be available on request.
